    Harmonic drive is kinda cool. Not entirely sure of its practical applications but the way it works, I'd not seen that before. With these tools and a driver board like arduino or r-pi you could set up a nifty Rube Goldberg machine or with many of them, do something like what Tim Hunkin does with janky but artful animatronics.

    I've made two of Mechatronics projects, the Mars Rover and the Scara Robot Arm. These projects are great because they are well thought out and designed, with lots of photos and construction details.     I am trying to build this. Doesn't work for me. The diagram show the pins on 2 and 4, realised code says 2 (3rd one along) and 5. But still not working. tried to adjust current but makes no difference. Exactly the same components 12v to motor but not have not added the capacitor. Any ideas please.

    You need a test to measure torque while in motion so that you get the dynamic efficiency with parts in motion. Something like a disk brake (from a bicycle), similar to an engine dynometer. Or lifting weight with a rope and winch. The brake dynometer works very similar to your torque test, but the lever is coupled to the gearbox output shaft only through the friction of the disk brake.

    Can the MS1 and MS2 pins be controlled via software or only my connection to GND and 5V? I was working with TMC 2209 and was TOLD that such control was available on it,but later came to understand that on the TMC 2209 the MS1 and MS2 pins are used for setting up come parameter for UART control of the selection of Step type, e.g. WHole Steps, quarter steps, sixteenth steps etc. I really need to be able to control that via software.

    I tested a gearbox made up of Helical gears for the motor shaft and Double Helical gears, all printed in PLA. The gears moved a Step Feeder system, with low torque, for about 100 hours. I did not use any lubricant, and after this time the gears showed very little wear.

    Hi, pretty cool video. What about noise? I designed a two stage planetary gear (using herringbone gears) and it's very, very noisy, even with grease. Especially at high RPM. By design the cycloidal drive should be much quieter I think?

      Hi, there are many things that could go wrong in this situation. First you must check whether you have a proper Bluetooth communication, whether your modules work right. You can do that with another simpler code just to test whether you have communication. Then you have to check whether you are getting any values from the app into the Arduino so that send commands to the motors to move. There is no guarantee that the codes that I provide will always work on your setup. It worked for me, and I showed how I did it. From there you should find a way how to make it work on your setup.

    I have subscribed but unable to use social media nor have a working laptop. I fixed vehicles for 40+ years and seem heater controls go from cable to all electronic. Today, for $10, I can have a 12Vdc electric motor that couples to a door. It directs air thru the heater core or around it. The dash controller is no more that a potentiometer to move from cold to warm, then hotter or full hot. I have the actuators that drive a pot using an internal gear. I am building an air distribution box for a 67 Chevy C10. You have fascinating devices but I was looking for something simple. I can scan your channels for a video but if you think of something that helps. Thank you!! DK. Retired. ASE Master tech.

    I think it's pretty good. Remember that a car with mass ~1t have engine that provide ~150 Nm of torgue. You could probably create ultra leightweight cars for cities with small electric motors with 20 Nm of torgue and these plastic gears.
